ECHOES OF SHANNON STREET
True crime novel of a thirty hour
siege where everything went wrong
and one officer paid the ultimate
sacrifice.
by: James R. Howell (ret.)
Major, Memphis Police Dept.
January 11th, 1983, two Memphis Police Officers made a routine complaint call to 2239 Shannon Street where they were taken hostage by members of a religious cult, whose leader believed the world was ending. He told his followers that no harm could befall them if they remained in the house. Outside 200 police officers began surrounding the house.

It is still to this day the largest number of suspects to die in a non-riotous local police action in the history of this country.
